Airsoft Gun Types - Spring, Gas and Electric (AEG)

From manually operated spring loaded pistols to fully automatic electric rifles, the variety of guns available to airsoft players today is vast. Airsoft players have more options than ever when choosing what types of guns to add to their collections. The guns used for airsoft fall into one of three main categories based on how they are powered:

electric bicycle

Spring Loaded

Spring loaded guns fire single shots using the potential energy stored in a spring, which is compressed when the gun is cocked and then released when you shoot. Cocking a spring loaded gun compresses the spring in preparation for the next shot, so spring loaded guns must be cocked before each shot.

ELECTRIC

In general, spring loaded airsoft guns cost less than their electric or gas powered counterparts, making them popular starter guns for newcomers to the sport. Most experienced players prefer electric or gas airsoft guns for their power and realistic feel.

Electric

Electric guns, also called airsoft AEGs (automatic electric guns) because of their automatic or semi-automatic capabilities, utilize an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery to cycle an internal piston or spring that fires the pellets. Because of their power, performance and realism, AEGs are the most common type you will see used in the sport of airsoft and are also the most widely available.

Gas

Gas guns are powered by pressurized gas - in the form of either green gas or CO2 - that is used to propel pellets from the chamber. Unlike spring loaded guns, gas airsoft guns do not have to be manually cocked before each shot. Gas powered airsoft guns are renowned for their power and precision. They are further classified as either non-blowback or blowback airsoft guns.

A blowback airsoft gun will have a slide that kicks back each time a shot is fired, mimicking the feel of firing a real gun. Non-blowback guns, on the other hand, have fixed slides and revolvers, and do not kick back as blowback guns do. Non-blowback guns give airsofters an economical alternative to blowback gas guns, but because of their realism blowback guns remain the most popular type of gas gun.

Deciding which type of gun you prefer for the sport of airsoft may just take some trial and error. Many airsoft players have different types of guns to use for different purposes.

Electric Cars Are Good for the Environment?

Electric cars are currently touted to save the mother Earth from the issue of global warming but are they really capable of doing that? After all, electricity is generated from coal and coal, just like petrol, is a non-renewable source of energy. Are we better off with the electric cars or do we just need to make the fuel based cars more energy efficient? Electric car certainly save on energy, no doubt about that but they are not zero emission automobiles. Driving it still involves a lot of money and you'd be surprised to know that 49.7 percent of US electricity is generated from coal. However, these cars are certainly much lower in carbon dioxide emissions as compared to the fuel based ones. Toyota recently came out with the Tesla Roadster which gives you 245 milers of travel on a single charge. There is also the 2006 Corolla which is excellent in fuel efficiency give an average of 31 miles on a single gas galleon provided it has manual transmission. After a hundred miles, the Corolla will produce 63.11 pounds of carbon dioxide through 3.23 gallons of gas. Energy Information Administration says that one gallon of gas emits 19.564 pounds of carbon dioxide. This figure again doesn't include the energy which is spent on taking the oil out of the ground.

electric kettle

Looking at the Roadster, you will find that this electric car give you 100 miles of travel on a single charge. Out of this, only 70 percent is used in the vehicle movement and the rest is lost due to the inefficiency in charging processor. One kilowatt of electricity generation produces about 1.55 pounds of carbon dioxide and this means the Tesla, in 100 miles, produces 48.05 pounds of carbon dioxide. You can check for yourself and the results will wary a bit, depending upon your state. States like West Virginia, North Dakota and Wyoming use a lot of coal and hence the CO2 production is higher. Roadster will end up with a lower carbon dioxide production at the end of the day. On the flip side, if you are a motorist from the Pacific Northwest, I would recommend an EV since this region uses hydroelectric pumps. You can check on the Internet regarding how much electricity does your state make from coal.

ELECTRIC

Lower emission of carbon dioxide is not the only reason to purchase electric cars. You won't see a single electric car having a tail pipe on the back which means these automobiles will not put a thick pile of smoke when they are running. The electric cars produce less nitrous oxide, methane and other green house gases as compared to the gas counterparts. The only exception to this is sulfur dioxide which is produced a lot by coal combustion and can result in acid rain.

The biggest drawback with the electric cars is that they need huge batteries and they are a bit difficult to manufacture. Some people say that if you take in to account the process that is needed for making these batteries, it makes the electric cars less greener.

Top 10 Electric Guitars

Ever since the guitar turned electric in 1931 rock stars have been twisting, bending and distorting the traditional sounds of the guitar to create unique master pieces that remain legendary. Rock and roll would never be if it weren't for the electric guitar. The first electric guitar was made in 1931 by the Rickenbacker company and has seen little change of the basic concepts other than the addition of solid state electronics.

electric bicycle

Tons of different electric guitars have been introduced from countless guitar companies, but there remains a top few that have been used again and again since rock and roll arrived in the early 1950s. Below are the top 10 electric guitars of the past 50 or so years that have became legendary.

ELECTRIC

10. BC Rich Warlock - An incredibly unusual shape introduced in the 1970s looks and sounds like its name. B.C Rich was a top choice and popularized by heavy metal bands in the 1980s like Megadeth, Danzig, Warrant and Poison just to name a few.

9. Gibson SG - The SG (solid guitar) created in 1961 was popularized by the Australian based heavy metal band, AC/DC and Angus Young's top electric guitar for sure.

8. Gibson Explorer - The airplane-looking shape was also a top favorite for heavy metal guitarists. The shape was so popular that it spawned numerous custom cloned from companies such as ESP. James Hetfield of Metallica was regularly on display with this top guitar.

7. Danelectro - One of the most simple, yet flashy designs, the Danelectro was pretty and sported a cylindrical pick-up nicknamed the "lipstick." Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame made this his top choice in the last few years of the band's existence.

6. Gibson SG Doubleneck - One of the strangest looking guitars, but one of the most versitile. What was tops about this guitar was that the top guitar was a twelve string and the bottom a six. This allowed for cool variations in tone and feel without the need of switching guitars during a song.

5.Gibson Flying- V - A top rock guitar for musicians who want to make a statement. Though awkward to play in a sitting position (arguable because you can't rock out sitting down), this guitar was actually a favorite of Jimi Hendrix.

4. Rickenbacker 425, 360/12 - There is no mistaking the sound of a Rickenbacker because of is resonating tone of the 12 strings. Made famous in rock and roll by George Harrison and John Lennon, this later became a top pick for bands finding a more melodic yet harmonic electric tone. Since then, bands ranging from the Byrds to R.E.M. also consider this a top pick and a staple of their unique sound.

3.Fender Telecaster - Another uniquely toned guitar made famous by Jimmy Page, this interesting single-coil pickup sound machine also sported a special "bending" device hooked to the top string that can be manipulated by pulling down on the guitar strap.

2. Fender Stratocaster - You cannot mistake the hollow, yet clear and bright sound of a Fender Stratocaster. It is amazing that a guitar this old has remained unchanged and yet still delivers the same power that Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton made famous back in the 60s. This is arguably the top choice of all Chicago-style blues players.

1. Gibson Les Paul Standard - Sexy, standard and unchanged, this top pick delivers the power and punch that has been heard by the top rock and roll bands in history. Sporting dual humbucker pickups, this guitar's sounds is like that of a 1960's muscle car. From metal, to hard rock, to punk and funk, the Les Paul Standard is arguably the most popular electric guitar in history.

Although it is nearly impossible to list these top electric guitars in any order, one can safely say that purchasing and playing any guitar on this list will certainly put a smile on your face and at the same time, conjr up fantasies of being on stage with your favorite bands. TonyRocks.com has continued this list but also reviews a number of newer guitars that didn't make it to this top list. Plus you'll be amazed at some of the guitar shreding videos posted by Paul Gilbert, famous for his Ibanez.

Safety Aspects of Electric Mopeds

The very first question or argument which comes in mind when we talk about electric scooters and electric bikes is about safety. If any of you have noticed, the weight of an electric bike is less as compared to other conventional vehicle options. Also, most of the electric bike models are sleek and slim in looks. The reason being, an electric scooter has less wiring and components as compared to your regular two-wheeler running on petrol or a diesel source which have a complex mechanism.

electric bicycle

The slim look is a double edged sword as many people even assume this as a reason to the fact that electric bikes are light in terms of weight. It is like, 'how on earth would such a small and compact vehicle provide safety to us? Size is taken as a general stand point for safety as well which is ideally wrong as the quality of metal used is what affects the safety of a rider and not necessarily the size of the vehicle. Also, the point that tilts the discussion and confirms the above statement is that most of the accidents which happen are either due to rash driving (rash driving can be done by us or the other driver in question) or through non-compliance of safety rules and instructions in general.

ELECTRIC

It is a general acceptance that heavily built vehicles are more safety oriented but this is not always true when all the points are clearly discussed along with proper reasoning. As it is, the best answer comes when facts are discussed. Many electric scooter models are slim in design which makes it easy to use and helps clear the parking woes as well.

While talking about safety in a broad perspective, not only the details are checked with respect to accidents (which might happen) but also details about general safety and practices are confirmed before commercial manufacturing. Generally speaking, it can be easily concluded that it is just a myth that electric scooters do not posses much of the safety elements which form the compulsory aspects of standard 2 wheeled motor vehicle.

Lastly, electric mopeds and bikes have been tried and tested by many bike enthusiasts and also by many transport bodies and they have accepted the vehicles' credibility. Discussing safety aspects with due consideration to size and durability of all types of electric bikes and even electric bicycles does help us clear many of the perceptions.

Razor Electric Scooters Versus X-Treme

It is difficult to miss the Razor brand while shopping for your electric motor scooter. There is no doubt that this Goliath of the scooter industry manufactures great products. However, another less visible manufacturer has proved themselves a worthy adversary, X-Treme Scooters. Browse a few scooter websites and you will see what I am talking about. Truth be known, X-Treme has been producing scooters for nearly as long as Razor (X-Treme May, 2001 and Razor 2000). So how does our David (X-Treme) stack up against the favored and larger Goliath, let's take a look.

electric smoker

We have compiled a list of important specifications when considering your electrical scooter. This week we are comparing the Razor E300S/E325S and the X-Treme 250 which both offer similar advantages. The listed specifications were gathered from each scooter's corresponding website. The attributes below correspond to the graph at the bottom of the page.

ELECTRIC

M.S.R.P. - This is the manufacturers standard pricing. Usually you'll be paying less and should pay no more than the MSRP.

Weight Limit - How much weight can you place on the scooter without stressing the vehicle? If you're too many burritos heavier than the listed capacity, expect some deficiencies in your ride.

Motor - Determines power. The higher this figure the more speed it can produce (though other factors like weight will affect your speed.)

Battery Charge Time - How long it will take to charge your scooter.

Usage Before Charge - How long can you ride before you need to recharge.

Product Weight - How heavy the individual scooter weighs. If you have kids or will have to carry you scooter you may desire a less weighty option.

Top Speed - The speed at which the scooter has the ability to go under its own power. This is highly variable, depending on weight, terrain and whether or not the wind is in your favor.

Removable Seat - If you prefer to sit, it's a nice option especially if it's removable.

Foldaway - The foldaway option is appreciated for storage especially by students when stuffing their scooter along classroom walls.

Warranty - Usually normal wear is not covered under the base warranty (tires, tears, tubes). However, each manufacturer has their own policy, consult their website for information.

The X-Treme X-250 surpasses its competitor in pricing and weight as well.

Electric Tankless Water Heaters - Will They Save You Money?

I was thinking about what topic to post on this weekend and I got a call from my sister. She asked; where can I get a tankless water heater. This was fortuitous, because I had just read an article on gas tankless water heaters and the comparative costs of installing one versus a standard gas water heater. In that article the comparison was not very favorable. So, I asked my sister; why do you want to know? Well it seems she is renovating her utility room and wanted to reclaim the space in the corner occupied by her standard water heater. So I did some quick research.

electric toothbrushes

My sister does not have gas service , so I investigated the available electric tankless heaters. Now a couple of things you need to think about very carefully as it regards tankless water heaters, especially electric ones, is your families lifestyle. If you have 4 teenagers and 2 working adults, it is possible you will pay more to heat the water with a tank less heater than if you have a standard water heater.

ELECTRIC

This is especially true if you live in colder climates or your water comes from a deep well. In these cases your incoming water will be colder than if you live in say Florida or Texas, so you will need to raise the water temperature more than if you did live in Florida (avg water temp. from faucet is about 70 degrees in Winter, in colder climates, water is as low as 40 degrees from the tap). Given that teenagers take longer showers, the savings just might not be there.

General physics will tell you that it takes 1000 watts to raise 4.1 gallons of water 100 degrees. Based on this, if you are importing water at 40 degrees, then it will take 10,000 watts to raise 40 gallons (typical size of standard water heater) of water to a standard storage temperature of 140 degrees. Now once it is raised, then it will start to cool, although slowly with the improved insulation in newer water heaters.

At a KWh price of 10 cents, the cost to heat that water was $ 1.00. Now compare that to an electric tankless unit producing a temperature raise of 65 degrees at 2 gallons a minute (adequate in Florida with an input temperature of 65 degrees, not adequate in New York or Maine). This particular unit is rated at 14KW. That means that while it is heating, it is going to burn 14,000 watts of electricity per hour. That same 40 gallons will take 26 minutes to heat and cost about 60 cents to heat. Seems like a big savings right.

Well not exactly. You see, when your standard tank is full it reduces the energy needed to heat the incoming water as the incoming water will absorb some of the heat from the already hot water somewhat reducing the input to raise the temperature of the water. In a tankless there is no stored hot water so the electricity required to heat the water is expended on a direct ratio. In testing the range of saving comparing tankless to standard water heaters has fallen in the range of 10-40 percent (the higher ranges being on gas fired devices).

So the next consideration is installed cost. In the regard you will spend about $ 1,200.00 labor and device to install an electric tankless heater, providing you have enough capacity in your electric panel. Assuming so, we compare this cost to an approximate installed cost of $ 600.00 for a standard electric water heater. Additionally, expected savings are thus according to government research:

For homes that use 41 gallons or less of hot water daily, demand water heaters can be between 24% and 34% more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters. They can be between 8% and 14% more energy efficient for homes that use a lot of hot water;around 86 gallons per day. You can achieve even greater energy savings of 27% and 50% if you install a demand water heater at each hot water outlet.

Source:http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/water_heating/index.cfm/mytopic=12820

So lets analyze this. If you have 4 teenagers in the house, you probably use more like 120 gallons of hot water per day, so your savings will disappear unless you can afford to install 3 uits (cost about $ 3,600.00) to cover both bathrooms and the kitchen and clothes washing. Even then your savings will be between 27% and 50% of your cost of heating water.

Government figures now say the average elctric bill allocates about 13 percent to heat water, so if your monthly bill is about $ 100.00 your savings might be 3-6.00 per month. Additionally, taking a shower and washing the dishes or clothes at the same time will probably stretch the capabilities of the electric tankless heater that I am using in the example, so you will need a bigger one or another one and a bigger electric service unit so your installed cost will increase dramatically. So the saving just are not there.

If on the other hand, there are just 2 of you and your lifestyle is easily adjusted to accommodate the demand between showers, dish washing and clothes washing, then you might achieve some savings by installing the tankless heater. At this point, given the numbers, I could not see any justification in my family. There is one other factor to consider, tankless heaters have a life expectancy of 14-18 years a standard water heater will last 6-12 years depending on the hardness of the water and the maintenance performed on it.So I had to tell my sister the facts that the tankless will cost more to install, will save them a very minimal amount on operating costs, but that it would save her the 7 square foot of space or so that the current water heater takes up in the utility room. In the end she will have to decide if it is worth it.

Used Electric Golf Carts

A golf cart, as the name suggests, is a small gas or electrically powered vehicle used to carry two golfers and their golf clubs around the entire golf course.

electric scooter

Electric golf carts are more popular than gas carts as they don't make noise nor pollute the environment. Today, there is growing awareness about the benefits of using electric golf carts. Many corporate organisations use golf carts to move around in their large campus grounds as well. Though the design of the golf cart has remained the same over the years, some improvements have been made to the standard features as time as progressed.

ELECTRIC

Electric golf carts are gaining popularity as people are become increasingly aware of the benefits of using an electrically powered car. With new and longer lasting batteries, golf carts don't need to be recharged at short intervals of time, and allow a longer duration run. Not everyone can afford a new electric golf cart. Hence, a used electric golf cart is the next best option. Moreover, used golf carts make for a better option if you want to customize the cart with your personal choice of accessories.

Used electric golf carts should be bought on 'As Is' basis, as they come with the original body and dings, dents and scratches. You can check the accessories that come with the cart. The roof and battery chargers are usually a part of the package. Though the used golf cart may require some worn or torn parts to be replaced, you can always do the repairs at home only.

Charmglow Electric Fireplaces

Charmglow electric fireplaces are definitely worth a view while you are searching for that beautiful fireplace you desire. They are not only decorative to your room they are also fantastic to give you that instant heat when you enter the room on a chilly winters day.

electric scooter

They come at affordable prices to suit all budgets and come in a variety of styles for you to choose from. The most important thing for you to think about before you choose the one of your choice, is to ensure you have an outlet plug nearby to plug your fireplace into.

ELECTRIC

Charmglow electric fireplaces are installed with a holographic image and at the flick of a switch, it will produce a real life looking flame, great for a fantastic effect even though the room may not necessarily be that cold.

If you do not require the flame image, you can just use the heat control instead. The fire is installed with a 1500-watt heater fan, and once this is switched on, your room will heat up beautifully. It is because you are using a fan control for heat that these fireplaces are superb as there is no need to create vents, therefore no messy installation work.

As well as not needing to have any messy installation work done by purchasing a Charmglow fireplace there is also another advantage. If for example, on a late summer evening you feel like you would like a fire but don't actually need any heat, at the flick of a switch, you could turn the flame on. This would add a lovely warm glow to the room.

The beauties of the Charmglow electric fireplaces are that they are easy to move from one room to another, as they only weigh 42 pounds. As mentioned before there is no upheaval with any messy installation and more importantly they are low-maintenance just a quick clean with a clean dry cloth.

Electric Car Conversion

Do you find yourself watching the gas gauge in your car? Do you find yourself hoping your car will go farther and farther on a gallon of gas? As we continue to watch gas prices hover around .00 a gallon and take a bigger chunk out of our budgets, many of us are searching for ways to stretch our transportation dollars. Luckily, there is a solution to the outrageous price of gasoline, an electric car conversion; it is possible to convert a regular gasoline car to an electric car. By converting your car to electric, you will be changing your car into a more cost efficient vehicle, and you also be helping the environment by using a "clean" fuel.

electric toothbrushes

For only pennies a day, you can drive your electric car around town. That is much better than spending .00 a gallon to put gas in the tank. In general, an electric car can drive for one hundred miles before needing a charge. For a full charge the cost is around one dollar. Think of how much gasoline your car uses to drive a hundred miles and how much that costs. An electric car conversion can save hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars in fuel costs in a year.

ELECTRIC

Another reason to consider changing your car over to an electric car is that you are improving the environment. Gasoline cars fill the air with carbon greenhouse gases. Many scientists believe this is a contributing factor to global warming. With an electric car, you are not burning a fossil fuel, so no harmful exhaust fumes pollute the air. An electric car has no fumes at all. Another bonus to an electric car conversion is the tax advantages. Since an electric car is considered a "clean" fuel, the government offers tax credits when you change over to an electric car. That is more money saved by converting to an electric car.

So how do you convert your car? There are two ways. You can pay a professional to convert your car. This costs thousands of dollars, depending on the professional. You can also do an electric car conversion yourself. There are do-it-yourself manuals available that give step by step instructions. This is a less expensive way to obtaining an electric car.

If the high price of driving is getting you down, and you are looking for a more cost effective means to driving, then an electric car conversion is for you. Along with its cost effectiveness, a conversion to an electric car also eliminates greenhouse emissions. That benefits everyone.

Can We Make a Hydro-Electric Powered Car?

The Online Think Tank recently got together to come up with the least plausible way to build a car motor, that did not use fossil fuels and then prove that it could work? Why you ask, well it has a lot to do with "imagination" and Einstein's advice to never stop dreaming, and for inventors and innovators that's where it all starts isn't it?

electric toothbrushes

So, the Online Think Tank has invented or rather hypothesized a Hydro-Electric car that would never need to refill. But the technology concept was really for a Hydro-dam and another for a Blimp or rotating dirigible. A similar scheme can be used to refill water behind dames, as the dam could use a suction plan like Civil Engineer Mulholland did to get water over the mountain into Los Angeles.

ELECTRIC

The Online Think Tank concept to build a car like this is similar and the suction is aided by forward air increasing the siphoning effect, like a vacuum. When the vehicle slowed down it would use re-generative paddles to put the water back into the tank or use a small gear to tilt the entire system upside-down in order to put the water back on top. The challenges are it might be a little top-heavy, due to 8.2 lbs per gallon and I need a better baffling system.

They have also considered getting the water to move faster to make up for the small fall distance, using the automobiles relative wind to create air pressure in the tank and a air jet in the down tube to increase water speed. One member even discussed using the water movement and rocking effect of the water thru the baffle system to power up additional energy. The Online Think Tank, well they are serious; they are pretty sure with a very light car using new materials that they could make this work.

Other factors include having Ion Lithium batteries with interior webbing of a special substance increasing the power life without increasing the weight (foam scheme). I must tell you, I wanted to do this to power my Golf Cart as soon as I heard about it. The Online Think Tank admits that with all the projects that one is still on the drawing board.

Perhaps, I really need to get a shop, some Cad Cam kids and a bigger budget and make one myself? Speaking of funding, someone ought to contact Exxon or Chevron and get them to fund this thing, then if we mass produce the Oil Companies are "downside protected" in the event of a catastrophic "peak oil" scenario in a decade or two?

Do-It-Yourself Electric Car Motor Conversion

Electric car motor conversion is the ultimate solution for more people due to the permanent rising of gas prices. For families who possess more than just one car, gas expenses are really a great deal. The bad thing is that sending your car to some professionals for conversion to be an EV (Electric Vehicle) car costs almost 00. The most practical alternative is to purchase a DIY kit and do the motor conversion all by yourself.

electric lawn mower

Converting your motor into an electric car motor is not as difficult as many people think. What you need is a good place to work and a simple and easy guide to walk you through the process of conversion. Once you have those things, you can start your conversion at your own time without having to pay an expensive service charge.

ELECTRIC

The principle of converting an engine into that of an electric car involves replacing the combustion engine with electric motor and taking out all other components, like the radiator, the gas tank, as well as the fuel line. There would be enough space to install some battery racks to hold a series of lead batteries that will supply the needed power for the electric car to run on. The driver can also control the acceleration or the speed an electric car; a variable resistor is installed between the main electric motor and the batteries to give variance to the speed, depending on the push of the driver's foot.

Practically, before doing anything, think of the possible solutions to cut on fuel expenses every day. There are some elements to be added to the fuel so that your engine can burn them easily and will cut the use of more fuel to keep your car running. However, if nothing else fails, consider the electric car motor conversion to be the ultimate alternative.

Many types and configurations of awnings and canopy structures are available in the market today. Retractable awnings that extend from the roof or face of the building provide weatherproof cover at doors and entryways and are typically made of canvas or vinyl. Similar awnings are also used to cover windows, storefront, or patios. Door and window awnings are available in several styles and sizes to accommodate different configurations. Latest door and window awnings incorporate a ?roll up? design, allowing easy manual retraction of the awning. Many companies manufacture door and window awnings in kit forms. A wide choice of different shades of high quality marine weave fabric is also available. These awning kits are quite easy to assemble and usually come with the necessary installation hardware and detailed instructions. The awning frames are made of extruded aluminum sections and offer a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

LOWES ELECTRIC FIREPLACES

Metal awnings are usually permanently installed at the doors and windows of the house. The awnings allow opening, closing, and cleaning of the windows, while protecting window and door structure from the elements. They are usually bolted into the walls and calked around the wall interface to prevent water leakage. They are generally not removed from their fixed locations unless requiring replacement or repair. Copper or steel door and window awnings enhance the appearance of the building or the establishment while simultaneously protecting the structure against sun and rain. High quality door and window awnings can be custom made from multi-ribbed steel or copper sheets. Awnings protect the buildings and inside furnishings and also add style and class to the building itself.

If properly taken care of, stationary door awnings can provide years of undiminished maintenance-free service. When buying fabric awnings for home usage, it is better to make sure that they are most suitable for the local climate.

Electric Car Parts - Important Things You Should Know Before Making Your Own Electric Car

It doesn't matter whether you are just looking for information or want to convert your gasoline car to an electric one, you need to know the basic parts included in the task. Even though the working principles of an electric car are simple and parts will look very easy to obtain, the practical implementations can have its disadvantages, something most of us want to avoid. To begin with, a gasoline or diesel powered car will be converted to an electric car without changing a lot of things.

electric toothbrushes

Adapter Plate - For an electric car, the existing transmission of a gasoline car is of no use. The adapter plate must be fixed as an aftermarket product.

ELECTRIC

Motor Controller - As electric motors deliver constant power, it is not possible to control this output without using an appropriate device. Transmissions can't be used on an electric car but it is the motor controller that does the duty. You can find motor controllers on most golf cars.

Batteries - The battery system can be quite complex in factory made electric cars while aftermarket fitments use traditional batteries. In fact, this is the most crucial part of an electric car and most of the money that we pay for a car is spent on batteries. There are gel based batteries which eliminates the chances of spilling while lithium-ion batteries can perform well as there is no liquid in it. Both battery kits are quite expensive, a reason why most aftermarket kit stick to the traditional liquid electrolyte based batteries. However, liquid electrolyte batteries will not last as long as the previous options.

Emergency Disconnector - In case of a short circuit or any other possible issues, you immediately need to disconnect the electric supply between the batteries and the car motor. This is where an emergency disconnector comes into play.

There are two types of motors for you to choose from - AC and DC motors. AC kits are used to provide better power delivery because AC motors can easily pick up the speed after braking. AC motors systems are one of the easiest installations possible and they can produce excellent torque too. This is why AC motors are quite famous among many converters. Most AC kits can be fitted from your nearby workshop. DC motors have many benefits than AC motors. They are easily available and fitting can be a lot easier because most EV converters are using a DC setup so finding an expert in this profession is not a very difficult task. Similarly, DC motors can mange instantaneous torque.

One more reason for many people to prefer DC motors are the lower price. However, choosing the right motor for your car depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a performer with good power output, AC system is the way to go. On the other hand, DC motors are ideal for beginners as this is a very easy to fix option.

Electric Car Emissions - How Clean Are They?

One of the major concerns with automobiles has been the pollutants they emit into the atmosphere. Carbon emission from cars is known to be one of the major destructive substances for the ozone layer. For this reason environmentalists have been very concerned about internal combustion engines that must necessarily smoke in order to make the cars work.

electric bicycle

The advent of the electric car has been a great relief to many. The biggest benefit for this type of car has been the cost of ownership but in a global perspective, it is an environmentally friendly car. Electric cars do not have any emissions at all. They do not smoke because they don't have internal combustion engines that use gasoline to provide energy. All the energy they use is obtained from the battery pack in the car.

ELECTRIC

Evs are going to be the answer to the world's quest for a green vehicle. The absence of smoke means cities would have clear skyline and no more will smog be characteristic of urban dwellings.

You may want to know that the reduced components of the electric car means there will be little or no lubricants. Lubricants are also known to cause pollution to the earth's atmosphere. Mostly made of hydrocarbons, they are also a depleting substance for the ozone layer.

Electric cars do not have the kind of engine to produce smoke so they run clean. You will not find an exhaust pipe on these kinds of cars at all. By operating on batteries, they are able to leave the skies clear and clean at all times.

Electric Cooling Fans Cause Car Problems

I've seen quite a few electric cooling fans give up the ghost recently. The complaint from the driver is usually the air conditioning is not working. Although some owners may notice a car overheating condition. In either case, one of the first things that a mechanic will check is to verify that the electric cooling fan is running when it is supposed to be.

electric scooter

The overall efficiency of a car's cooling system is based on the amount of heat that can be removed from the cooling system and transferred to the air around it. At highway speeds ram air through the radiator is sufficient to maintain proper cooling.

ELECTRIC

When the engine is idling or the vehicle is at very low speeds. The engine's cooling system needs additional airflow. On modern cars an electric cooling fan delivers this air.

The use of this type of fan eliminates the power drain during times when fan operation is not needed. Although there are vehicles still manufactured with belt driven fans, they are not as efficient or used as often as electric fan motors.

In most late-model applications electric fans save power and reduce the noise level of the vehicle. It's hard to say how long one of these units will last, because it depends on the vehicles operating conditions. Even though modern fans are well sealed they are still made with metal parts that can wear and corrode over time.

When I have one of these cooling fan motors to diagnose I will often go right for the source and check for power and a good ground at the motor itself. I have also seen mechanics take their power probe and supply 12 V to the fan motor to see if it runs. I have also seen and used the tap test where you just use the handle of a screwdriver to tap on the back of the electric motor.

Note that a qualified mechanic should conduct these tests. The cooling fan can be a dangerous car part. If a fan motor tests good then you will have to check the other side of the circuit. This consists of a cooling fan temperature switch and a fan relay.

The temperature switch could be located in a few different places. But often they are mounted near the thermostat. The coolant temperature switch is a simple on or off switch that sends power or ground to the cooling fan relay.

This should not be confused with the coolant temp sensor for the computer, which on many vehicles is separate. When the engine coolant is below 230° or so. The switch will remain open and the fan will not run. When the temperature switch senses the engine to be over 230° the switch closes. This energizes the coil in the relay, closing the contacts and sending 12 V power to the cooling fan motor.

The above is common example of a coolant fan motor circuit. Some vehicles may have more complicated systems. Some car makers will even use the ground side of the circuit to control operation of the fan.

Learning to Play Electric Guitar Fast

It can be difficult learning to play electric guitar, despite it being one of the most popular instruments today. Its sheer flexibility in terms of tone, volume, and sound quality has allowed it to dominate every popular music genre for the past 50 years.

electric razor

Learning anything can be difficult at the start, so before you consider learning to play electric guitar, there are some things you should consider:

ELECTRIC

Your Fingers Will Hurt!

Beginner acoustic guitarists definitely have it easier than electric guitarists. Electric guitars use steel strings, which are thin and painful to play until the player forms calluses. You can buy strings which are thicker and won't hurt the fingers at much, but not only will that affect the sound of the guitar, but forming calluses will take longer. It's best to just stick at it and accept the fact your fingers will sting!

Get To Know Your Guitar

You'll probably be playing you're electric guitar for a while, so you might as well get to know it inside out. What materials are used? What sounds can you get out of it? Playing with the knobs and switches will give you an idea of how to mix everything to give certain sounds and effects. You can also buy effects boxes to further this, although it's something you should consider getting at a later date.

A Good Guitar Needs A Good Amp

It doesn't matter how good, or how expensive your electric guitar was, when you plug it into a low quality amplifier it'll sound awful. If you have already bought an electric guitar but don't have an amplifier yet, you should really consider getting a good quality one straight away. If however, you have bought an electric guitar and an amplifier, and the amplifier isn't that good, don't stress, you can always get one at a later date (and a backup amplifier is always good to have).

Gas 2 Electric Review - Is the New Electric Car Technology a Scam?

Does electric car technology really exist, and can you really convert your car to run with electric with the Gas 2 Electric guide? I recently purchased and used this guide by George Christodoulou that claims to be able to help anyone convert their gas cars to run on electricity. More information about electric car technology and the features of Gas 2 Electric will be explained further inside this article.

1. The History Of Electric Cars

ELECTRIC

At one time in the past, electrically powered cars were very popular in United States roads as gas cars produced a lot of smoke and made a lot of noise. However, after new methods to make gas were found, electrically powered cars were slowly taken over, and gasoline cars became the standard method of traveling.

With more efforts being made to promote a cleaner environment and cleaner cars, electric car conversion has become a very hot topic. I managed to find and download this guide called Gas 2 Electric that has helped me convert my vehicle to run with electric easily.

2. How Does An Electric Car Work?

These cars use electrical energy stored in batteries to run the motor and turn the wheels. No gasoline is burned during the process, and I have found this method of powering a car to be much cleaner and more cost efficient.

3. What Are The Batteries Needed To Run An Electric Car?

Up to 24 batteries may be needed to power an electrical car. To charge the batteries, I will usually plug them into the regular electrical wall outlet at night. These batteries may be nickel cadmium type or lead acid type, and the Gas 2 Electric guide will explain to you how different batteries differ in terms of capacity of energy it is able to hold and which ones are able to last the longest.

The Cost of Granite Countertops

The beauty, hardness and utility of granite makes it a highly desirable material for countertops in home design. In addition to its natural strength, granite is a beautiful stone that adds color and warmth to a room. Though the cost to add granite countertops to any new kitchen or remodel can be quite high, they remain the premiere choice in many new and remodeled homes.

lowes electric fireplaces

The price of granite countertops ranges from to 0 a square foot, which may or may not include the cost of installation. Discount granite can be found for as little as per foot, not including installation. The premium cost is not in the stone itself, but rather in the costs related to transportation and installation.

LOWES ELECTRIC FIREPLACES

The stone industry remains unregulated, which can make it confusing. Every entity that handles the granite, from the quarry to the supplier and fabricator, can establish their own pricing based on the demand in the local market. Dealers who provide full service, so that a homeowner doesn't have to do the shopping or planning, will add a markup of up to 50%.

Granite suppliers will typically have three or four groupings (or "tiers") of granite to choose from. The first tier will consist of the premium products that sell for the highest price. Stones are grouped based on several criteria including the country of origin, color, veins or patterns, thickness of the slab, amount of soft minerals in the stone, and current fashion trends. Some granite colors exhibit ""movement"", or a distinctive pattern within the color. The combination of color and movement also affect the final price of granite countertops.

Granite from lower tiers has the same beauty and utility as the slabs in the upper groupings. Additionally, stones in a lower tier could be harder than stones in a first tier, so it pays to get out and look around. A lower tier could also be referred to as "commercial grade." Typically the commercial grades have a large number of "pits" that have been filled in. The presence of softer minerals may require additional cabinet supports or penetrating sealant, which adds to the final price of granite countertops.

Cheaper, thinner cut stone may be a little less than two centimeters instead of a recommended three, in which case the installer would laminate it to plywood backing for additional stability. Discount granite suppliers will typically deal with a thinner cut stone; many suppliers now carry stones that are intentionally cut thin and laminated at the quarry. It is now common for stone that originates in Asia or India to be cut thin and fabricated prior to shipping. Pre-fabrication does create a lower cost product with less waste being shipped to the supplier. In addition, the fabrication is done in countries with much lower wages, saving on the labor costs at the final destination.

The price of granite countertops is greatly affected by the number of seams and cuts that will have to be made in the stone slabs. Discuss how the cuts will be made when the installer or fabricator makes their preliminary measurements for the template. Another thing to question are the hidden costs of wasted material. Depending on the length of countertops being installed, there will be at least three square feet of waste by the time the fabricator is finished. The cost of wasted material is paid by the homeowner.

Shopping for granite countertops doesn't have to be frustrating. Focus on finding a reputable supplier and installer who are willing to answer all your questions. Despite the fact that labor expenses are the largest price of granite countertops, this is one project that needs to be left to the professionals. The oversized sheets are extremely delicate and must be precisely cut. Failure to properly set a granite countertop could create an expensive mistake for a do-it-yourself homeowner.

Electric Circuits and Their Components

Electric circuits act as a pathway for the electric current. They are the rightful conductor of current form one end to another. An electric circuit is designed so that they are the safest methods of sending electric current from one point to another. In the simplest form, an electric current consist of a bulb, a wire and a cell. All of these components are essential to completing the electric circuit. There are two types of circuits

electric scooter

o Closed Circuit: A closed circuit is the one in which the path of the current is continuous

ELECTRIC

o Open Circuit: The type of circuit in which the path of the current is not continuous is called an open circuit.

Cells:

Alessandro Volta discovered electric cells in 1800 when he realized that the path for a continuous current could be laid by putting layers of zinc and silver discs over one another. However, each of these discs needs to be separated from one another by a cloth or a paper that is dipped in NaCl solution. So in short, an electric cell is a chemical device that is used to continuously supply the electric current from one point of the circuit to another.

Resistors:

Resistors are a very important part of electronics in modern times. Resistors are electrical gadgets which control the current flow through a circuit, (the path through which electricity flows). There is a lowering in voltage (current) between two points. Resistors depend on something called Ohm's Law, which you will learn about in later years. It is important that you remember at this stage that Resistors are based on the theory of Ohm's Law.

Resistors are of five types. Here they are:

o Fixed Value Resistors

o Variable Resistors

o Potentiometers

o Thermistors

o Photo Resistors

Variable Resistors:

When a potentiometer has only two connecting wires in place of three it is called a variable resistor. You may refer to your notes on Resistors to know what a potentiometer is. The parts which make up are the same for both but they do very different jobs. The potentiometer would let you control the current that passes through a circuit. The variable resistance allows you to make adjustments between the two nodes on a circuit. The potentiometers are also called pots.

Current

Electric current is defined as the flow or movement of electrons or electron-deficient atoms. It is represented by the upper case letter I and is measured in amperes represented by A. Current flows from relatively positive points to relatively negative points.

There are two kinds of electric current such as Alternate current (AC) and Direct current (DC). Alternate current is an electric current in which the flow of current changes direction and magnitude cyclically. On the other hand, direct current is the continuous flow of electric charge whose direction is not subject to change. Direct current was earlier referred to as Galvanic current.

Voltage

Voltage is known as the difference of electrical potential between two points of an electric circuit. It is also referred to as electric tension and is measured in volts. This unit is used to measure the potential of an electric field to make electric current flow through a conductor. Voltage is classified as low voltage, high voltage, extra low voltage and extra high voltage based on the difference of the electrical potential. Initially, voltage or potential difference was referred to as electromotive force (EMF).

How to Build an Electric Car - Do it Yourself Conversion

Interested in owning an electric car? Join the crowd. The problem is that very few people can afford to buy the electric cars that are for sale. We're still a few years away from mass produced electric vehicles. As a result, a lot of folks are wondering how to build an electric car. You can do it from scratch, or you can simply convert your gas-guzzler into an electric vehicle.

electric bicycle

A conversion like this involves removing the entire engine and replacing it with a battery and electric engine. It takes a bit of time and effort, but the result is your very own electric car that you built yourself! Just think--you won't have to stop for gas anymore. Plus you'll now be eligible for all kinds of federal and state rebates for driving an alternative-fueled vehicle.

ELECTRIC

A lot of people don't realize that electric cars are actually more dependable than gas vehicles because the engine isn't made up of as many parts. Most of the parts in an electric vehicle engine don't even move, so they don't wear out. The only thing that needs replacing is the battery, and you only need to get a new one every few years.

In order to do this kind of conversion, it's a good idea to buy an electric car conversion kit. Some are quite expensive and include parts for the job. But there are now kits that show you how to do a conversion very cheaply. How? By finding the parts you need for very little money. The kits tell you exactly how to do this.

Electric car conversion kits are selling like hotcakes on the internet right now. You simply buy one (they run from -), download it right away, and you're off and running! If you're mechanically minded, this can be a fun and educational project.

Your new electric car should be capable to traveling up to 100 miles on one charge. And they can reach speeds of about 50 mph. Obviously, electric cars are great for the environment and reduce the country's dependence on foreign oil. It's just a win-win situation for everybody.

Electric Guitar Chords - Secrets to Playing Rhythm Guitar Revealed

Playing chords on your electric guitar is quite different from an acoustic, especially when using distortion. To get the best sound out of your distorted guitar it is best to substitute standard open electric guitar chords with bar chords, power chords and simple triads. The aim of this article is to discuss the different electric guitar chords that sound really cool with distortion.

electric bike

The first electric guitar chords you should use with distortion are bar chords. A bar chord gets it name due to the fact that the first finger will lay across the fret board covering all of the strings. To make a simple bar chord first look at how you would play an open E major chord. Now move that same fingering for an E major chord up the neck one fret and use your index finger to bar all the strings on the first fret. The advantage of using bar chords is that you can easily move this same pattern up and down the neck. Bar chords sound great on an electric guitar because you can easily keep any unwanted strings from ringing and causing feedback.

ELECTRIC

Some more electric guitar chords you may find useful are power chords. Power chords are made up of just two notes. Usually the a root note and a fifth. If you are a fan of Metallica then you will love power chords. Almost all of their earlier songs are played using these electric guitar chords. An example of a power chord would be to play the 6th string 5th fret and the 5th string 7th fret together at the same time. These two notes make up an A5 power chord. This same pattern can be moved anywhere on the neck. Try it you'll see what I mean.

Lastly, you can play triads, or three note electric guitar chords. Triads can be made up of the root, third and fifth, however many guitar players like to omit the fifth and use the seventh chord tone because it generally gives a more unique sound. A good example of a band who utilizes a lot of triads in their electric guitar chords is Opeth.

All three of the electric guitar chords above sound great with heavy or light amounts of distortion. Bar chords help stifle unwanted feed back and noise while power chords and triads are simple chords shapes that have a clean crisp presence. The electric guitar can be a completely different monster than the acoustic so take advantage of the electric guitar chords mentioned above to make up your own brutal riffs.

No matter what brand of fan you want to buy, it's a good idea to do some online research about the different options that are available. In addition, you need to decide on the size of fan that would be best in your room. By doing this internet search you will probably discover that you can't beat the prices and warranties available with Harbor Breeze ceiling fans.

Make Decisions before Shopping

Look at the room where you're planning to install a fan. What size will do the best job for you? If you have a small room, then a 48" fan will probably be all that you need. For a large family room, a 52" fan will be a better choice. How many blades would you like your fan to have? You can find models ranging from 3 to 6 blades. Consider your décor and decide what color and style of fan would fit in best. You'd hate to buy a new Harbor Breeze fan that ended up looking out of place in the room you're putting it in.

One additional cost to consider is the price of having any extra wiring done that you may need in order to install the fan. A fan that is for cooling only will probably work using the wiring you already have for your overhead light. However, if you still need that light and purchase a fan with a light kit, you'll need additional wiring in order to run both features. You should also consider whether you want the extra expense of buying a remote for your fan.

Non Electric Treadmill

Treadmills come in a variety of shapes, sizes and price ranges. The types of treadmills mainly fall into two categories, these two are the electric treadmills or the non electrical treadmills. The electric treadmills are those which require an electrical power source. These treadmills are generally bigger in size, heavier but more sturdy and can take more weight. They will take up more space in your home and will be harder to shift around. These electric treadmills are however more expensive than the non electric or manual treadmills.

The focus of this article however is on the non electric or manual treadmills. These treadmills do not require an electrical power source. This is because it is manually powered. Do you know that in early history before the treadmill was created, there actually existed the "treadwheel". This was actually something similar to the present day non electric treadmill, just that it was an instrument used to reform offenders in prison. The offenders would be required to power these treadwheels, just like those pet hamsters you see running on their hamster wheels. These treadwheels were subsequently used by hospitals to check if a person was suffering from heart and lung disease.

ELECTRIC

Later, people realized that these equipment could be used as a good form of exercise and found out the benefits of running walking and jogging and how aerobic exercise can improve blood circulation and strengthen the heart. Hence the non electric treadmill was born (and only later when people realized that they could supply electrical power to get electric treadmills and also add on computers to track heart rate and customize work out programs, the electric treadmill was born).

If you are thinking since now we have the electric treadmill, what good would the non electric treadmills be right now? Isn't it better to buy an electric treadmill? Like I earlier mentioned, non electric treadmills are cheaper than electric ones hence if you are on a tight budget but would want to buy a treadmill to exercise then a non electric treadmill would be a good choice. There are also other benefits of a non electric treadmill. They are usually smaller and easily assembled and shifted around. They also require more energy to operate as they are not electrically powered, hence you actually work out more to power the treadmill machine as well as to work against the friction of the treadmill. Thus you get to burn more calories and get to save the earth at the same time, since the non electric treadmill is more environmentally friendly!

The Difference Between AC and DC Electric Motors

There are two main types of electric motors. There are direct current or DC and alternating current or AC motors. The reference of DC or AC refers to how the electrical current is transferred through and from the motor. Both types of motors have different functions and uses. Dc motors come in two general types. They can have brushes or be brushless. AC motors, as well, come in two different types. They can be two phase or three phase. The differences in DC and AC motors are sometimes subtle, but these differences are what make one types better for a certain use.

electric scooter

Direct current or DC electric motors work for situations where speed needs to be controlled. DC motors have a stable and continuous current. DC motors were the first and earliest motors used. They were found, however, to not be as good at producing power over long lengths. Electric companies found using DC motors to generate electric did not work because the power was lost as the electric was transmitted. Brush DC motors use rings that conduct the current and form the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Brushless DC motors use a switch to produce the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Direct current motors are often found in appliances around the home.

ELECTRIC

Alternating current or AC electric motors are used differently based on what type of AC motor it is. Single phase AC motors are known as general purpose motors. They work well in many different situations. These AC motors work great for systems that are hard to start because they need a lot of power up front. Three phase, also called polyphase, AC motors are usually found in industrial settings. These motors also have high starting power build transmit lower levels of overall power. AC power gets its name from the fact that it alternates in power. The amount of power given off by an AC motor is determined by the amount of power needed to operate the system.

DC and AC electric motors are found everywhere from the home to the car to industrial plants. Motors are important to everyday life. Dc motors were introduced and caused a great revolution in the way many things are done. When AC motors came on the market the way motors were looked at changed because of their amazing starting power potential. DC motors and AC motors are different in many ways, but they still both are usede to power the world.

Electric Radiant Floor Heating - Pros and Cons

As you may already know, radiant floor heating is a great alternative heating method that is gaining more attention in recent years. Unlike forced air heating systems, radiant floor heating systems give a nice, even, luxurious heat to a room.

electric kettle

There are several types of radiant floor heating, with the two main types being electric and hydronic. We'll be talking about the electric system in this article.

ELECTRIC

So, how does this electric radiant heating work? More or less, the system is an electric blanket that sits under your floor. Electric cables run underneath your floor, and generate heat from resistance, just like an electric blanket. Easy enough to understand. Let's talk about the pros and cons of this system.

One obvious issue is that electricity is quite expensive. To save electricity, it is generally more efficient to install the system over a concrete floor base. The concrete will absorb up the heat, and radiate out slowly, giving the radiant heating system its characteristic "glowing warmth". If you install the same system in something like a wood floor base, none of the heat will be absorbed, leading to an inefficient system. In fact, if you can't install the system in some sort of slab, you're better off just getting a hydronic system.

One situation where electric radiant heating does shine, though, is for additions where running the main heating system over is not practical. Since electric radiant heating requires no furnace or boiler, it is very convenient to install. Of course, since it doesn't provide cooling, you may want to run ducts in anyways, or use some other sort of cooling method. For heating in an odd addition, though, electric radiant heating is a great way to go.

You can see that electric radiant floor heating isn't a magic bullet. It can be inefficient for the amount of heat it provides, that is for sure. However, if you have the right setup, or simply have a hard to heat addition, be sure to give electric in floor heating systems a closer look.

How to Install Electric Wiring

Electrical and wiring installation is necessary in order to have power in your home for operating heat and various appliances. This particular part of the construction phase is usually done by qualified professionals. However, it is recommended that you study the basic of installing electric wiring for quick fix-ups in your home.

electric guitar

These are the basic principles on how to install electric wiring.

ELECTRIC

First, make sure that the main power supply to the home is shut down. Or at least, remove the fuse or trip the breaker for the specific circuit you will be working on in the service panel. Never start working until this is made certain.

To fully understand how to install electric wiring in your home, study the wiring diagram. This will help you greatly in getting the gist of good electrical wiring. It is also recommended that you read an electrical how-to book or manual. Having a guide book at home is good for reference anytime you need to do a fix-up in your wiring.

Remember that wires of the same color connect to each other. Basically, electrical wires are color coded to prevent wiring errors. White wires are normally used to connect to other white wires or to chrome terminal screws on switches and receptacles.

Black wires in the cables are intended for connecting switches. However, there are cases where a cable is extended. If this is the material, white wires are often used instead of black wires. To be able to prevent future wiring errors, try to paint the white wire black.

The standard wiring used for homes is Number 12 or 14 gauge wiring. Under most codes, the smallest permitted wiring is Number 14.

For continuation in any extended wiring circuit, always use the same size of cable.

By remembering these basics in how to install electric wiring, the task of fixing or installing new wiring would be less confusing.

Disadvantages of Electric Cars

With all the current emphasis on going "green" and protecting the environment, it is no wonder that the electric car has come center focus. Especially now with soaring gas prices, consumers want to know their options. Traditional gas powered vehicles have long been the focus of those concerned with environmental issues, and so invariably inventors and car manufacturers look to improve the technologies available on the electric car.

electric razor

If you are considering the purchase of an electric car, you need to be realistic about their benefits. They've come a long way recently but they still have some significant disadvantages, and there are still limitations to their use and wide spread availability. Here are some disadvantages you may want to consider when evaluating if an electric car is feasible for your transportation needs:

ELECTRIC

1. Electric cars are expensive to own. If you've checked into the price of an electric car, you know they are not "low end". It's not so much the price of the car as it is the price of the batteries which they run on. If you've purchased batteries you know how the costs can add up quickly, and the batteries used in electric cars are lithium-ion, which are expensive. Also keep in mind that eventually the battery packs will need to be replaced, as they have a life of approximately 3 to 4 years.

2. The batteries will need to be recharged. A second disadvantage to an electric car is that the batteries will need to be recharged. This will require advanced planning because you'll have to allow adequate time for the batteries to be fully charged. Now this might not sound like that big of a problem but if you are thinking of purchasing an electric car then you will need to make an honest assessment of how much you will use your vehicle. An extended or unplanned trip could be problematic if you haven't had time to fully recharge the batteries.

3. Limits on driving distance. If you drive long distances, an electric car might not suit your needs, so you will need to consider how far you plan on driving your car. Most of the electric cars have limits on how many miles they can go before needing a recharge. Electric car maker ZAP recently announced that their electric car could travel up to 100 miles per single charge, but many people drive more miles than that round trip on a daily commute to work. This is definitely a limitation for those who intend to use the vehicle for getting to and from their place of employment. You certainly would not want to run out of batteries if you got stuck in a rush hour traffic jam.

4. Lack of power. Another disadvantage to the electric car is the lack of power, specifically quick pickup. If you do a lot of interstate driving there are going to be times when you will need to accelerate quickly to merge into traffic.

Electric cars have come a long way in recent years but still have to overcome a few more obstacles before becoming widely embraced as a solution for many consumers.
